Students evacuated from buildings at Long Beach City College Thursday morning as police investigated a bomb threat in a vehicle, school officials said.
Long Beach City College issued an emergency alert at 10 a.m. for its Liberal Arts campus at 4901 Carson Street, officials said.
The evacuation was due to a possible explosive device, the Long Beach Police Department said. Carson Street is closed near Clark Avenue during the investigation, police said.
The area was deemed safe at about noon.
Police received a call warning them about a possible explosive device in a parked vehicle at a campus parking lot, according to a LBPD spokeswoman who expected the investigation to be wrapped up by about 12:10 p.m.
The Los Angeles Sheriff's bomb squad was requested to come to campus as a precaution, police said.
Buildings A, B, N, P, Q, R and T were evacuated, according to the emergency alert, which asked students, faculty and staff to stay away from the area. The buildings were closed until further notice.

All classes that start before 2 p.m. in those buildings were canceled, officials said.
