Promposal Bandit Sought for Vandalism in Santa Monica Mountains

The promposal was spray painted on a rock near Sandstone Peak in the National Park Service wilderness area

What was meant to be a creative prom proposal in the scenic Santa Monica Mountains turned out to be an act of vandalism.

For the second year in a row, someone painted the word "Prom?" on a rock in the country's largest urban national park. The Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, which has more than 500 miles of trails and stretches from the mountains west of Los Angeles to the Pacific Ocean, is part of the National Park Service.

The promposal was painted on a rock near Sandstone Peak, the highest summit in the wilderness area.

A photo of the vandalism was posted to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area Twitter and Facebook accounts with a message.

"We love hearing about creative promposals, but damaging public lands is not the way to do it. For the second year in a row, the same graffiti message has been scrawled on a rock near Sandstone Peak."

Anyone with information about the vadalism was asked to call 661-723-3620.
