A Rocklin police officer has been arrested for using excessive force while arresting a man suspected of driving drunk.
Rocklin Police Officer Brad Alford was taken into custody Tuesday and booked into Placer County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily harm, assault under the color of authority and filing a false police report.
The Rocklin Police Department says the investigation into Alford started on Sunday, when a group of officers arrested a DUI suspect. Police say that during the arrest, Alford "used a baton in a manner that appeared to be excessive."
The district attorney's office on Tuesday determined that Alford's actions "rose to a criminal level" and pressed charges against him.
The department says in a statement it is "a sad and unfortunate incident for all of those involved."
