Spray Deodorant-Wielding Man Arrested After Attempted Carjacking

A man was arrested after he sprayed aerosol deodorant in another man's eyes, who confronted him during a carjacking attempt Friday, police said.

James Paz, 43, of Mira Loma was arrested Friday shortly after Lake Elsinore Police responded to the report of an assault at Central and Dexter avenues in Lake Elsinore around 2 p.m., according to police.

The victim told responding officers he had confronted a man attempting to steal one of his family member's cars, Lake Elsinore police said in a statement. The suspect responded by spraying aerosol deodorant in his eyes.

The victim was treated at the scene for his injuries.

While searching the area, officers located Paz attempting to steal another car and arrested him, according to authorities. Police discovered Paz had an unreported stolen vehicle, burglary tools, and the aerosol deodorant used to spray the man in his possession.

Paz was charged with "multiple felony crimes related to auto theft, burglary, possession of stolen, as well as assault," Lake Elsinore police said in a statement. He was booked a the Southwest Detention Center.
