State of California Owes Taxpayers Millions of Unclaimed Dollars

Are you looking for some extra money for the holidays? If you filed a tax return in California, you may have some money coming to you.

The Franchise Tax Board says it's sitting on about $28 million in tax refunds. That's because people moved and didn't leave a forwarding address.

About 49,000 people can claim the money.

"This doesn't even have to be just last year's refund or this year's refund,” said FTB spokesman Daniel Tahara. “If you have a refund due to you, it never expires. So even if it was 10 years ago, 15 years ago, go ahead and give us a call. Who knows? You may have a refund waiting."

Visit the state’s Franchise Tax Board website to find out if you're one of the thousands who are entitled to that unclaimed money.
