Rescue Teams Search For Entangled Humpback Whale Spotted in Monterey Bay

The search is on to find a humpback whale that became entangled in fishing line spotted twice in Monterey Bay.

The whale was spotted near the mouth of the Santa Cruz Harbor on Sunday and again on Monday.

The Coast Guard says the whale has two yellow recreational crab pot floats wrapped near its head and a white buoy around its tail. The buoy is a scientific-tracking device.

Windy weather and choppy seas are making it difficult to find the whale, but rescuers were expecting better conditions Wednesday.
