Two Killed in OC Coast Highway Crash

A man and a woman were killed and three people suffered moderate injuries in a four-car crash on a beachfront road at Capistrano Beach in Dana Point on Sunday.

The wreck was reported at 1:22 p.m. on Coast Highway, south of the Pacific Coast Highway interchange at Capistrano Creek, according to Capt. Steve Concialdi of the Orange County Fire Authority.

The people who died at the scene, a 43-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman, were in a white Volkswagen Jetta, Concialdi said.

A 50-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man in a gray Honda, and a 53-year- old woman in a van, suffered moderate injuries and were taken to Mission Trauma Center, Concialdi said.

A boy, 15, riding along with a driving instructor suffered minor injuries and was released to his parents' custody, according to Concialdi.

The cause of the crash was under investigation, but the Jetta may have attempted an unsafe pass, Lt. Jeff Hallock of the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.
