Woman Arrested, Officers Find Over 200 Pieces of Mail in Car

Police said the stolen mail covers a wide section of the Los Angeles area.

A police officer pulled over a woman for speeding Saturday, and found hundreds of pieces of mail police believe was stolen in the car, according to authorities.

The woman was driving a rented white BMW when she was pulled over for speeding over 80 mph on the northbound 110 Freeway around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the South Pasadena Police Department. The officer who pulled her over found the driver had an outstanding felony warrant for grand theft auto.

Marisa Delgado, 27, of the Highland Park area was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license, identity theft, and on a no bail warrant for vehicle theft, said Det. Corporal Mike Sanchez of the South Pasadena Police Department. Delgado has been arrested for crimes in the past including automobile and identity theft.

When police officers searched the rental car Delgado was driving, they found over 200 pieces of U.S. mail that were not addressed to her, according to authorities. Police believe the mail was stolen.

"Officers also found dozens of blank credit cards, a credit card embossing machine, multiple mailbox keys for multi-unit housing complexes, several stolen driver's licenses and other tools commonly used to commit thefts," South Pasadena police said in a statement.

Police said some of the mail was stolen from apartment complexes using a master key.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service’s Pasadena field office was notified and will assist the South Pasadena Police Department before they take over and lead the investigation.

Delgado will most likely be arraigned in federal court sometime next week.
