Vandals Shatter Church Windows, Break Out in Dance

The young vandals did a victory dance after embarking on their spree at the First Lutheran Church

Three juveniles were detained for questioning after vandals were caught on camera throwing rocks through a church's windows before flooding it with a garden hose.

The vandals did a victory dance after embarking on their spree at the First Lutheran Church on the 600 block of Sumner Avenue in Lake Elsinore Monday night.

About 2,000 gallons of water flowed through hallways, rooms and the main sanctuary after they turned the hose on full blast. The liquid ended up running for 10 hours.

"We've been here all week just demolishing and drying up the carpets and the walls and the rooms," Pastor Kevin Kolander said.

And he is hoping the culprits will come forward and learn a lesson from their antics.

"(They should) at least own up to it and apologize and that's part of forgiveness," Pastor Kolander said.

Services will not be canceled, but will go on as the repairs are made, the pastor added.

Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to the incident on Tuesday, and are investigating.  Anyone with information can call the Lake Elsinore Station on 951-245-3300.
