An investigation was underway in what authorities were calling a "Christmas tragedy" after four people died in a mobile home fire in Big Bear Lake on Friday.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department was investigating the early morning blaze in the 500 block of Alden Road.

A deputy arrived at the engulfed mobile home to find a man outside who was hurt. He told deputies four people were still inside, but the fire was too severe for the deputy to enter.

The houses next to the fire were evacuated and Big Bear Lake Fire Department was called out to attempt a rescue.

The roof began to collapse, and firefighters had to pull back.

A 34-year-old woman and three children, ages ranging from 8 to 6 months old, were killed, the San Bernardino County Sheriff said.

The man who made it outside was taken to a hospital.
