Rosie O'Donnell was criticized by some anti-Prop. 8 groups for not lending her voice or money alongside stars like Brad Pitt, Ellen DeGeneres and Steven Spielberg.

Rosie O’Donnell has defended herself against critics who were angry she did not get involved in the battle against California’s Proposition 8, which set out to eliminate the right of same sex couples to marry.

“This is nothing new for me,” Rosie told reporters on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times. “When I got married, it was an act of civil disobedience as much as it was a love story. There is not any person in the country who doesn’t know I’m for gay marriage.”

The star was criticized by some anti-Prop.8 groups for not lending her voice or money alongside stars like Brad Pitt, Ellen DeGeneres, Steven Spielberg, Pete Wentz and T.R. Knight, to fight the proposition, which passed in the recent November 4 election.

“I’m not vocal enough?” Rosie said. “I got married before anyone else did. I’ve been living it and living it for a very long time.”

Though the East Coast-based star may not have joined the battle against a California ballot initiative, she continues to use her voice to share details about her past at daytime talk show, “The View.”

Rosie told reporters that her former boss and “View” co-star, Barbara Walters, “wanted everyone to believe and think and act as if [the panelists] get along and are really good friends and happy and hang out together, and, you know, that’s just not the reality,” the Los Angeles Times quoted her as telling a group of journalists. “I’m not saying they loathe each other, but the fact of the matter is, there was not a lot of camaraderie off camera.”

  • Common Sense Monday, Dec 15 at 3:37 PM FLAG COMMENT We will not change the rules just so gay people can marry one another. That's the silliest thing anyone has ever heard. You can marry someone just like the rest of us. Gay people have lost no rights at all. This intire issue is a complete waste of time and money.
  • LISTEN JERKS Sunday, Nov 23 at 2:51 PM FLAG COMMENT WHAT IS HAPPENING TO THIS WORLD? WHAT CAN THE CHILDREN SAY WHEN THEY GO TO SCHOOL. I HAVE 2 MOMMYS OR 2 DADDYS? THESE POOR CHILDREN..THEY WILL HAVE SOME KIND OF MENTAL DISORDERS..WHO'S YOUR DADDY?? AS FAR AS ROSIE I CAN"T STAND HER..
  • rusted Sunday, Nov 23 at 9:09 AM FLAG COMMENT Thank GOD they shot down gay marriage. If it were let to stand, my wife and I would have to get divorced b/c the whole notion of our marriage would be meaningless. Are you people kidding me? Why shouldn't gays be allowed to marry? Its ridiculous that people care this much. If people love each other and want to get married and have children - more power to them. There are tons of children to gay parents who are loved ... MORE >
  • sdgirl Saturday, Nov 22 at 10:46 AM FLAG COMMENT What I will be interested to see is how the children of these gay marriages turn out. Once these kids are old enough to realize what a real marriage is, MAN and WOMAN, how messed up will they be? Will they turn out the same way? Will they disown their "parents"? Will they think it 'normal"? Will they be so brainwashed? Hmmmmm!
  • JJJ Thursday, Nov 20 at 1:05 PM FLAG COMMENT I agree - Rosie is angry because she is not normal - but there is still time to change if you want to Ms. Rosie.
