San Francisco-Based Fitmob App Provides New Twist on Community Fitness

It’s being called by some of its users as the “Uber or Lyft for community fitness.” The fitmob app recently expanded from San Francisco to around the Bay Area. It’s also now available in Washington, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

For $99 a month, users can now attend classes at 192 locations matched up with fitmob. Classes range from CrossFit workouts in Los Gatos, to a yoga in San Jose, and group workouts on the Embarcadero.

"Our goal is to be covering you wherever you go indoors or outdoors,” said fitmob co-founder Rajil Kapoor.

Kapoor, who also co-founded Snapfish, says trying a variety of workouts around the region will keep people interested in working out.

"What you get is access to unlimited classes from the top studios and gyms all around the region.

Plus, unlimited gym time as well so you can walk in, reserve a spot right on your phone like you would pick up a car on Lyft or Uber and show it to the gym and walk right in and workout,” he said.

Claire Wedekin attended a yoga class inside fitmob headquarters Monday night. She started using the app last April when she lived in San Jose, before the expansion.

“I would tell the instructors, I really wish you guys would move down to San Jose, I would love to take classes in San Jose. So now I know they're expanding around the country so I'm really excited."

Kapoor says he plans for global expansion in the future.
