Cops are on the lookout for a signature vehicle -- the San Francisco Bay Guardian's van.

The parking lot at the weekly newspaper was broken into and the van stolen last night.

However, the thieves will have a tough time lying low, as the van has a colorful and elaborate mural painted on the side. It reads "Since 1974 the nation's original Best of the Bay."

You might recognize the van from the tabloid's 1999 Best of the Bay issue cover.

If you do, contact the folks at the Bay Guardian, as they apparently have a sentimental attachment to the old beater.

Jackson West figures it's being converted into a biodiesel vehicle by rogue hippies.
