Brother of Missing Woman Shoots Suspect, Self

The brother of a missing Los Gatos woman walked into a San Jose coffee shop late Saturday and killed the prime suspect then himself, says the Chronicle.

Police identified the gunman as Wayne Sanchez, brother of Jeanine Harms, who disappeared in 2001 and is presumed dead.

Sanchez walked into a Peet's Coffee and Tea around 9:19 p.m., shot Maurice Nasmeh, a 46-year-old architect from San Jose who was the last person known to have seen Harms alive, and then turned the gun on himself.

San Jose police said Saturday's incident began with a conversation between Sanchez and Nasmeh in a Red Robin restaurant in the same shopping center on the 1300 block of El Paseo de Saratoga.

"It is believed that during the course of the conversation, the suspect accused the victim of being responsible for the murder of Jeanine Harms," said San Jose police Sgt. Jason Dwyer in a written press release.

Dwyer said Sanchez left, then returned, prompting Nasmeh to leave and go to Peet's Coffee and Tea. Sanchez followed him there and engaged him in conversation again before shooting him.

"The suspect left the coffee shop and walked into the parking lot," Dwyer said. "As San Jose Police officers arrived on scene, they heard a sound they believed to be a gunshot. The officers located the suspect in the parking lot, deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
