Police agencies are promising stepped-up patrols to crack down on drunken drivers this Halloween holiday weekend.

Fremont and Hayward in the East Bay will have extra officers on hand just for drunk driving patrols.

In the last five years, there have been an average of 50 deaths a year in the state from drunken driving-related accidents on Halloween.

And since this year the festivities fall on a weekend, officials are particularly concerned.

San Francisco, Oakland, Alameda and Berkeley residents can count on free cab rides from Berg Lawyers.

AAA is also offering a "tipsy tow" service to get you and car home safely from anywhere within five miles of your house -- even if you aren't a member of AAA.

But you know, it's probably best to just leave the car at home and walk.

Jackson West prefers the more positive "drink or drive" to the finger-waggy "don't drink and drive."
