World's Crookedest Street Gets a Sweet New Look
Lombard Street hosts birthday bash for gingerbred men, gum drops, peppermint sticks

San Francisco's iconic Lombard Street is getting a sweet makeover.
The world's most crooked street is adorned in sugary decor and colors to honor the 60th anniversary of the classic board game Candyland, in what event organizers are touting as the world's largest game of of the family favorite.
San Francisco's iconic Lombard Street on Russian Hill, featuring a quarter-mile of hairpin switchbacks, will be remade Wednesday morning into a larger-than-life version of the game, which was introduced in 1949.
Event organizers will got a pre-dawn start Wednesday to sugar coat the street, setting up purple, yellow, blue, orange, green and red blocks along the path.
The street will be closed to traffic as children from the University of California, San Francisco Children's Hospital participate in the game as colored game pieces and interact with life-sized game characters including Princess Lolly, Princess Frostline and King Kandy
The children will compete in teams in races down the windy stretch. Some of the neighborhood children were also invited to participate.
The event will end with a 60th birthday celebration and cake.
