A vehicle accidentally struck five people, including Girl Scouts who were selling cookies, in Burlingame Sunday afternoon, a police officer said Monday.

The incident happened at about 3:45 p.m. on Chapin Avenue when a man trying to park his vehicle accidentally stepped on the gas pedal rather than the brake, according to Burlingame police Officer Todd Chase.

The vehicle struck several people, including a group of girls who  were selling Girl Scout cookies, Chase said.

Five people were taken to a hospital, according to  Chase. An 8-year-old girl and her mother are in serious condition at Stanford Medical Center with leg injuries.  The other girls are ages 10 and 12.
