Go Harry Potter Scavenger Hunting

A family-friendly wizarding adventure at your local museum

Cities across the country are celebrating Thursday's midnight release of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" with wizarding school scavenger hunts for fans.

San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C. and Boston will have hunts at leading art museums through January.

"Keep your trusty wand handy as you track down serpents, unusual creatures, swords, Dumbledore look-alikes, men that might remind you of Nearly Headless Nick, trophies that seem straight out of the Triwizard Tournament and eerie figures as scary as any Death Eater or Dementor," the Watson Adventures Scavenger Hunts website says.

Teams of 2-6 people can explore exhibits and artwork while answering trivia questions about the magical films based on J.K. Rowling's popular book series.

San Francisco's only hunt is this Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Legion of Honor. Tickets cost $16 for children 10 to 17 years old and $19 for adults.

The scavenger hunts are family-friendly, so there probably won't be any mention of Daniel Radcliffe calling Emma Watson an "animal" after they kissed.

Wizards and muggles are allowed to play together and it's OK if you're not a Potter expert. Players get a cheat sheet of wizarding terms to keep it fair.

"Deathly Hallows: Part I" is the seventh film in the Potter series. It's expected to make around $135 million this weekend, which would make it the biggest opening in 2010.
