Sunday afternoon, police shot and killed a man wanted in connection with a deadly high profile beating in Saratoga and a homicide in Fremont. Both cases were home invasions, according to police.
Police say they had an arrest warrant in hand and were on a SWAT stake out in Cupertino after learning the suspect, wanted in the two homicide cases, was inside an apartment complex. The suspect was not initially named by police.
Multiple agencies took part in the pursuit including Fremont police and the Santa Clara County SWAT team.
Investigators said the man they were looking for walked outside just after 2 p.m. They say after they approached him and identified themselves as police, he ran off.
Police spokesman Bill Veteran said the officers fatally shot the suspect about a block away.
They said he was armed with a pistol, but did not immediately say whether he fired it.
Police say the man was a suspect in the killing of Fremont resident Larry Lopez. Lopez, 49, was found dead inside his Sycamore Street home by his son Monday afternoon.

He is also a suspect in a brutal attack of an elderly Saratoga man and his daughter. The two were beaten inside their hilltop home back in December. Police said 94-year-old Charlie Maridon initially survived the attack, but later died of his injuries. His 64-year-old daughter was also beaten, but survived.
Police did not initially say what motivated either crime. The Saratoga attacks were particularly brazen. Two masked men entered the Maridon's home late at night demanding access to a safe. The Maridon's did not own a safe.
A second suspect involved in the Saratoga case is still being sought, according to Sgt. Rick Sung.
