Mt. Diablo High School in Concord was locked down for about 30 minutes this afternoon after a verbal altercation led to rumors about a possible gun on campus, a police lieutenant said.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. at the school, located at 2450 Grant St., and the rumors were never substantiated, according to Lt. Garrett Voerge.
After a verbal altercation between two male students, one of the students allegedly said "I'm afraid I'll get shot," Voerge said.
The comment spurred the lockdown of the school, but no threats were made with a gun, and no gun was ever seen or found, according to Voerge.
The school was reopened by 2:30 p.m. and the students went home for the day, Voerge said.
Neither student involved in the altercation was taken into custody, he said.
