Nature to Put on Light Show Tonight

Here's a reason to stay up late tonight

The annual Perseid meteor shower is promising to put on a dazzling sky show tonight for much of the Bay Area.

Astronomers say up to 100 meteors per hour are expected to streak across the sky during the shower's peak.

In most of North America the best time to watch is before dawn Wednesday, but here in the Bay Area the peak time is supposed to be between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Forecasters say the fog will be thick enough to keep those who live on the coast from enjoying the show to the fullest.

And as always, try to get away from the big city lights in order to get your best views.

The Perseid shower occurs every summer when the Earth's orbit crosses the path of debris thrown off by Comet Swift-Tuttle.
