Pelosi Tour Stop Brought to You by Kaiser

Speaker's health care reform victory tour in her district continues

Democratic Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has been in San Francisco celebrating the passage of health care reform legislation and met with cheering crowds.

At the Hotel Vitale Tuesday morning, Pelosi and George Miller, another Democrat representing Martinez, met with executives in the Bay Area Business Council for breakfast.

Who sponsored the vittles at the Vitale? None other than the nation's largest health care conglomerate: Oakland-based Kaiser Permanente.

Under the law, American citizens will have to have at least basic health coverage, either purchased or provided by your employer, or else face an additional tax of $695 a year starting in 2014.

The cost of health care for people earning less than 400 percent of the federal poverty level would be subsidized, however.

Meaning that Kaiser can expect to enroll millions of customers newly able to afford coverage with the help of public money, and won't have to compete with any publicly run health care organizations.

All for the cost of a breakfast, and some campaign cash.

If you'd like to ask the speaker about the bill's details personally, she'll be addressing the Commonwealth Club in San Francisco April 6

Jackson West needs to pay his Healthy San Francisco bill.
