The San Francisco Police Department uncovered a marijuana growing opreation in the Sunset District Wednesday afternoon, marking the 20th pot bust in the Bay Area in the last five months.
While working on information about a pot growing operation on the 2000 block of 32nd Avenue, officers spotted a suspect coming out of a home around 2:20 p.m. The officers learned that the suspect was a convicted felon on probation and obtained a search warrant for the residence.
A marijuana growing operation of more than 200 plants was found in the home, as well as a shotgun with ammunition and other items, according to police.
Two suspects were arrested on multiple offenses during the search.
Last month, officers raided a home in the 2200 block of 20th Avenue and confiscated 346 mature marijuana plants as well as growing equipment. Police said they made busts at four other Sunset District homes in July, seizing more than 900 plants.
“I am not aware of specific connections,” said Sgt. Lyn Tomioka of the SFPD. “But the inspectors working cases look for links or connections in the grow sites.”
Tomioka went on to say that community involvement is an essential component of the effort to control the Bay Area's pot-growing problem.
“When the resident see anything suspicious we encourage them to call the police,” Sgt. Tomioka said.
