Most anyone will tell you Mondays are bad.

But a bad day at work took on a whole new meaning for Raul Banderas, who spend two hours on his back trapped in a ventilation duct.

Banderas was doing follow-up work on an air condition repair job when he fell about 20 feet into the air duct from the roof. He was trying to get a better angle and was crawling through the duct when he fell into a hole, building manager Jeff Draper told the Merc.

Firefighters received a call at 11:13 a.m. reporting a trapped man trapped inside an air duct at 2310 N. First St. They cut through the duct from the first floor ceiling and pulled him out, San Jose fire Capt. Barry Stallard said.

Bay City News contributed to this report.

Banderas injured his back and suffered a 3-inch cut to his right forearm. He was slipping in and out of consciousness during rescue efforts, but was expected to survive, Stallard said.
