This type of delivery is worse than junk mail.
Nearly 900 teachers and administrators will be getting layoff notices in their mailboxes starting next month as the district tries to balance their budget.
The board on Tuesday night approved the layoffs during a packed-house meeting. Among those at risk of losing their jobs are nearly 400 teachers, about 100 principals and assistant principles, counselors, school nurses and librarians. Teachers with the lowest seniority are at highest risk of being cut.
District officials have said they hope to rescind many of those pink slips but program and staff cuts would still be necessary to help meet the budget shortfall. State funding to the district has been severely cut.
Union officials say they have yet to be shown why the layoffs are necessary.
