Shhh: You Have to Be Very Quiet on BART

So you think your morning BART ride is filled with dirty seats and cramped trains? It could be worse. Your train could be loud.

BART officially is one of the quietest transit systems in the country, according to a study by the Federal Transit Administration.

Never mind that loud humming you hear every time a train blows by. And ignore that signature "beep beep" when a train pulls into a station.

BART trains were singled out for their  β€œtrued wheels and smooth ground rail on ballast and ties,” which help make it β€œone of the quietest vehicles in operations at U.S. transit systems,” according to the San Francisco Examiner.

That may surprise some daily commuters who make sure to stay plugged in to survive the buzzing.

If you're one of those people who can't pull yourself away from your iPod while you're on a train, pull the plug next time and sit back and enjoy the silence.

Maybe next BART will clean up those chairs.
