Officer Matthew Bordoni has been on the San Jose police force for less than a year but he is already being called a hero.
Bordoni and two other officers were checking street vendor licenses in East San Jose around 10 a.m. Sunday when Bordoni spotted a toddler having trouble breathing.
He patted the boy on the back, but the 2-year-old started turning blue.
That's when Bordoni performed a successful Heimlich maneuver that sent a piece of Halloween candy flying out of the boy's mouth.
The boy, who was not injured, was released to his parents.
