A man who was critically injured in a shooting on Interstate Highway 580 near Fruitvale Avenue on Sunday night remains in critical condition Monday, an Oakland police spokeswoman said.

The victim was driving east on Highway 580 at about 10:50 p.m. when another vehicle pulled up next to him and someone inside shot into his car, police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

Nearby officers heard the gunfire and headed toward the sound, and were flagged down by a passenger from the victim's car, Watson said.

The passenger was unharmed, and the victim was taken to a hospital.

Highway 580 was shut down for about three hours while Oakland police investigated the shooting, California Highway Patrol Sgt. William Bradshaw said.

A description of the suspect was unavailable.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $15,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect. Anyone with information can call the Crime Stoppers tip line at (510) 777-8572.
