Palo Alto Transit Center Closed Due to Unknown Substance on VTA Bus

The Palo Alto Transit Center is closed because of an unknown substance found on a bus this morning, a Santa Clara County sheriff's spokeswoman said.

Deputies responded shortly after 7:30 a.m. to a report of a substance found on a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus at the center, sheriff's Sgt. Andrea Urena said.

Deputies are helping Palo Alto fire personnel at the scene as they conduct tests to determine if the substance is hazardous, Urena said.

There doesn't appear to be any crime related to the incident, she said.

The VTA sent an alert shortly before 9 a.m. stating that the center was closed.

Palo Alto fire officials were not immediately available to provide further details about the incident.
