1 Dead Following Double Shooting Near San Jose State University: Police

A man is dead following a double shooting Tuesday afternoon near San Jose State University, police said.

The shooting was reported at 2:11 p.m. in the area of South 11th and East San Antonio streets. Officers responding to the scene found two men suffering from at least one gunshot wound each, police said.

The victims were transported to a local hospital, where one of the victims was pronounced deceased a short time later, police said.

No suspects have been identified or located, but police said they are searching for a gunman who raced away from the scene in a car.

Witnesses said they saw someone open fire on two men in a mini van.

"It's pretty scary," San Jose-resident Mike Duarte said of the shooting. "It's scary so close to home."

Tuesday's fatal shooting is the 24th homicide in San Jose this year and comes less than 18 hours after the city's last homicide. In that case, a man was found shot to death, slumped over the vehicle of his car on Berryessa Road.

Meanwhile, traffic in Tuesday's shooting is being diverted and officers are asking residents to avoid the area.

No other information was immediately available.
