San Mateo School-Bombing Suspect Heads to Trial

The trial for a teenager accused of detonating two pipe bombs at a San Mateo high school is set to get underway after doctors found he was sane at the time of the incident.

The San Mateo County Times reports that a judge has scheduled jury selection in the trial of 18-year-old Alex Youshock for Wednesday.

Youshock has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges including attempted murder.

Authorities say Youshock went to Hillsdale High School, his former school, on Aug. 24, 2009 intent on killing as many people as possible.

He allegedly set off two bombs before he was tackled.

One doctor who evaluated Youshock wants clarification on the legal definition of sanity. A hearing on that matter is scheduled for Tuesday, but prosecutors say they don't expect it to delay the start of the trial.
