49ers, Raiders Avoid Each Other in the Preseason

NFL releases a schedule without the Bay Area showdown.

It's official: The San Francisco 49ers and the Oakland Raiders will not meet this season.

The National Football League has released its preseason schedule and both Bay Area teams will play schedules that do not include the local rival on it.

After fan violence marred last season's preseason showdown between the two Bay Area football teams, executives from the 49ers and Raiders vowed to take a few years off.

This year's game was scheduled to be played in Oakland.

The 49ers will play out the preseason against the Minnesota Vikings, the Houston Texans, the Denver Broncos, the San Diego Chargers.

The Raiders will play the Dallas Cowboys, the Arizona Cardinals, the Detroit Lions and finally against the Seattle Seahawks.

Both teams will have nationally televised games, with the Raiders hosting the Cowboys during week one and the 49ers playing the Peyton Manning-led Broncos week three.
