Police in Palo Alto uncovered a marijuana growing operation in the foothills of the city.  Police are not releasing the exact location of the discovery but over 5500 plants were recovered with a street value of over $15 million.

Palo Alto Police SWAT officers along with the Santa Clara County Sheriff Marijuana Eradication Team raided the area on Friday.  Two unknown suspects fled the scene.  Due to the steep terrain and heavy brush, police were not able to catch the suspects.

Besides the pot plants, police also recovered a loaded shotgun and two air rifles from the suspect camp  along with evidence of a sophisticated growing operation.

Police continue to investigate leads into the suspects and encourage citizens to report and suspicious activity seen in open space areas.
