An 18-month-old child died at a San Jose hospital on Wednesday afternoon, and as is routine in all child deaths, San Jose police homicide detectives are investigating, according to a spokesman.
Sgt. Jason Dwyer said Thursday that the baby, whose gender was not disclosed, arrived at Regional Medical Center Wednesday and was pronounced dead at 3:03 p.m. Dwyer did not have more information about the case.
A source close to the investigation said a family member brought the child in.
Santa Clara County Coroner Capt. Mark Eastus said that the cause of death won't be known, perhaps for weeks, as his office waits for toxicology tests to come back.
