180 Drunken Bar Fighters Attack East Bay Officers

How many drunken bar fighters does it take to overwhelm the Emeryville Police Department on any given night? About 180.

Five Emeryville police officers had to call for help from the Oakland, Berkeley and UC Berkeley police departments and the California Highway Patrol after a bar brawl was too much for them to handle.

About 180 people carried a fight into the streets after a brawl broke out early Friday morning at Kitty's bar in Emeryville.

At first the Emeryville officers responded alone, but after being pelted with bottles and being punched, the officers were forced to call for the back up. Three Emeryville officers suffered minor injuries.

The officers were attacked after they were forced to defend people in the crowd, according to a police report.

Thirty officers from the neighboring agencies responded to help calm the fight that involved knives and guns. After about 20 minutes, two arrests and blood spots, the situation was declared under control.
