The 1906 earthquake and fire that leveled San Francisco also hit public transportation hard.

The public transportation infrastructure that was to become Muni suffered extensive damage, and images from that disaster culled from the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency's collection of photos are now available for public viewing online.

A photo gallery is available on the SFMTA's Flickr page as well as on its photoshelter site.

Some images are believed to be published for the first time courtesy of the SFMTA.
