2 Occupants of Speeding Car, Driver of Stolen Motorcycle Killed in Separate Accidents in Sonoma County: CHP

Multiple people died early Sunday morning after two separate accidents in Sonoma County, according to a California Highway Patrol officer.

Around 1 a.m., the CHP responded to reports of a crash on state Highway 1 near Doran Beach Road in Bodega Bay, according to officer Jonathan Sloat.

Sloat said it appeared a vehicle had been traveling at a high speed before colliding into a tree and bursting into flames.

Upon further investigation, Sloat said officers found two bodies inside the vehicle.

At around the same time, a CHP unit observed a motorcycle on northbound U.S. Highway 101 near state Highway 116 in Cotati.

Sloat said officers ran the license plate and discovered that the motorcycle had been reported stolen.

When they attempted to make an enforcement stop, however, the driver fled westbound on State Route 116 and lost control at Old Gravenstein Highway before crashing into a fence, CHP officials said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both incidents are under investigation, and no further information was immediately available.
