Two people were fatally shot by police officers outside a Target store in Sand City on the central coast of California on Monday, a dispatcher said.

A pair of police officers were serving outstanding warrants to the suspects in the store's parking lot around 2:45 p.m. when the shooting occurred, according to the dispatcher.

Both suspects succumbed to their injuries while the officers, who were also shot, sustained non-life threatening injuries, authorities said. The Target store, located at 2040 California Ave., has been closed.

Seaside police, the California Highway Patrol, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office and other agencies have responded to the scene, the dispatcher said.
