The Mission District is a Latino neighborhood.

And that'll be true no matter how many coffee shops replace taquerias -- it's official San Francisco policy.

City leaders named 24th Street -- that is, Calle 24 -- a "special district akin to Chinatown" on Tuesday, according to Mission Local.

The area now has a "Latino Cultural" designation, which is meant to steer the way new development projects impact the neighborhood.

Two bakers, Jaime Maldonado of La Victoria and Louie Gutierrez, who owns La Reyna -- both panaderias on the same strip of 24th Street -- are behind the effort 100 percent, Mission Local reported.
