3 Burglary Suspects Arrested in Almaden Valley: SJPD

San Jose police said three suspects were arrested late Thursday for a series of burglaries throughout the city.

The suspects were arrested in the Almaden Valley neighborhood, which has been plagued by a rash of burglaries.

Police said burglaries are up nearly 250 percent in the Almaden Valley compared to the same time last year. Police report 82 burglaries in South San Jose in January, compared to 56 robberies in December and 57 robberies in November.

The department has been shifting and juggling resources to try and curb the spiking burglary problem, which has prompted some community concerns.

The San Jose Police Department recently assigned truancy officers to help patrol the Almaden Valley. Police point to the recent arrests to show the shift in resources is paying off.

Police said they are hoping the arrests will help investigators find any other possible members of a crew or burglary ring.

The arrests follows a community meeting held Wednesday to discuss the spike in burglaries. Hundreds of residents attended the meeting to voice their concerns.

"We feel very vulnerable," Esmeralda Chommer, a burglary victim said to NBC Bay Area. "You just feel helpless."

Meanwhile, some residents are worried police are being stretched thin.

"Just the fact that they're prioritizing here, we need to take a look at where they're taking the other priorities from and if there is crime going up in that area," resident Julie Wiegman said.
