3-Year-Old Child Accidentally Drowns in Family Swimming Pool in Antioch

A 3-year-old child on Wednesday accidentally drowned in a family swimming pool in Antioch, police said.

Someone called 911 around 7:20 p.m. after finding an unresponsive child in a pool on the 4000 block of Rocky Point Drive, police said. The caller was given CPR instructions while police and paramedics rushed to the scene.

First-responders were at the house within minutes of the incident being reported. The toddler was rushed in an ambulance to a nearby hospital but additional life-saving efforts failed, police said.

Preliminary information points to the drowning being an accident, according to police. An investigation is ongoing.

Kwana Hood lives in the neighborhood and says the "unfortunate circumstance" is a reminder for parents to pay close attention to their children.

"Watch them," she said. "You can’t just leave them in the yard and think everything is fine because they’re in your yard or front lawn or even your neighbor’s yard because you can never know where they might end up."

No further details were immediately available.
