Four people escaped a burning home on fire Tuesday morning in Monte Sereno who were happy to have made it out alive, but were worried about their missing two cats.

The family escaped the two-alarm blaze reported just before 3 a.m. on Saratoga Los Gatos Road.

Santa Clara County Fire crews worked hard to quell the flames that licked the home, built in the 1920s.

Kristina Recla smelled smoke and heard popping noises, which turned out to be spray paint cans exploding on the second floor in an artist studio, where the fire damage was the most severe.

She was able to wake up the rest of the house, and no injuries were reported.

Jessica Iacomini also was one of the residents who escaped.

"We are just worried about our animals," she said. "It's very scary and it's very tragic."

Fire crews were especially busy because they were also called out to power outages, false alarms and a car crash all within the same time period.
