5 Arrested After High-Speed Chase, Gun Thrown Out of Window: CHP

The suspects could be linked to a previous homicide

The California Highway Patrol and San Jose police arrested five people and recovered a handgun Monday night that was thrown out of a car window, which could be linked to a previous homicide.

CHP Sgt. Joe Azevedo said that at about11:15 p.m. Monday, San Jose police were chasing a Ford Fusion that they suspected was involved in a homicide and asked for CHP help.

As the chase passed Washington Boulevard in Fremont, San Jose police said someone threw a handgun out the window and landed near the right shoulder of Interstate Highway 680 at Vargas Road.

The Ford Fusion kept driving at speeds of up to 100 mph. At some point, the car’s left rear tire shredded off, and the car was speeding along on its rim, Azevedo said. At some point, the driver pulled over in the center divider of northbound I-680 north of Bernal Road, which is where officers arrested all five suspects.

San Jose police also recovered the gun.

At this point, police have not said which homicide the suspects may be connected to.
