A 5-year-old boy who was hit by a minivan near the South Hayward BART station Saturday remains on life support Monday morning, Hayward police said.

The minivan's driver was heading north on Dixon Street at 12:48 p.m. Saturday when she hit the 5-year-old boy who was running across the street near Copperfield Avenue, police said.

The boy was rushed to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland and remains there on life support this morning, police said.

The driver, a 64-year-old Hayward woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. She is not suspected to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Any witnesses to the crash have been asked to call Sgt. Jason Corsolini of the Hayward Police Department's traffic bureau at (510) 293-7149.
