Move over “415.”

The California Public Utilities Commission approved a new area code Thursday for San Francisco and Marin counties.

New phone numbers will start with area code "628" starting in February 2015.

Existing numbers get to keep 415. It was one of the state's first area codes, created in 1947. It's expected to run out of prefixes, the first three numbers following the area code, by October 2015.

Another big change: Anyone calling one 415 number to another will need to dial all 10 digits.
