A Glimpse Into Facebook's New ‘Reality'

Facebook admits that some people get queasy when they step into the virtual world.

So the Menlo Park-based social media giant is relying on technology to make the ride smoother.

“Any acceleration you see in the video can make some people motion sick,” said Johannes Kopf, a research scientist at Facebook. “It's not something you perceive in real life, so ideally you want to take that out as much as possible.”

The company has turned to software that helps stabilize the video and give users a steadier view of their virtual activities.

It promises to offer “a smoother, more pleasant experience with this immersive 360 experience,” said Jay Parikh, Facebook’s Head of Engineering.
