Alameda Police Ask For Help Finding Man Who Fled Mental Health Evaluation

A man undergoing a mental health evaluation fled a hospital in Alameda Sunday afternoon and police are asking for the public's help to find him, police said.

Officers responded at 3:24 p.m. to Alameda Hospital at 2070 Clinton Ave. and started a citywide search for the man who did not complete his treatment, Sgt. Darin Tsujimoto said.

Police are describing John Franich as Hispanic, 41 years old, about 180 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white T-shirt and blue hospital pants when he fled, Tsujimoto said.

Franich is considered to be a person at-risk. He is transient and frequently visits the Park Street business district, police said.

Police will continue their search until they locate Franich, Tsujimoto said.

Anyone with information on Franich's whereabouts is being asked to call Alameda police at (510) 337-8820 or 911.
