Rape, Child Porn Charges Added In Alameda Arson Case

Rape charge filed against man suspected of Sept. 2014 arsons.

Additional criminal charges have been filed against the man being prosecuted for a string of arson fires in Alameda last year, as well as a man arrested and released in connection with the crimes, according to reports.

The Oakland Tribune is reporting that arson suspect Andrew Gutierrez, 22, is now being charged with a Sept. 19 rape.

His fingerprints were found on the car of a woman who reported being raped in her car while being "heavily intoxicated," according to police.

He's still in custody, where he's been since Sept. 28.

Meanwhile, Stephen Petersen, 27, who was arrested that same day and charged with arson — charges that were later dropped — was charged Jan. 30 with possessing child pornography, authorities said.

While investigating Petersen, who was released in October after police determined his alibis were legitimate, police found child pornography on his computer, the newspaper reported.

That led to another investigation and eventual charges for Petersen, a musician who played in a benefit concert for victims of the fire.

Both men are in jail in lieu of bail, the newspaper reported.
