Vallejo police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run collision that sparked after the victim allegedly stabbed the driver.
In a department statement issued Sunday, police said that the incident was reported at 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Springs Road and Thelma Avenue.
A U-Haul truck driver allegedly struck two pedestrians, police said, adding that a man was found under the vehicle's front tire. Witnesses said a bald Caucasian man, who looked to be in his 20s, bolted from the scene.
Paramedics treated the hit-and-run victim and transported him to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.
According to police, the victim and driver were involved in a verbal altercation on Springs Road at Oakwood Avenue. The victim allegedly stabbed the pick-up truck driver and left the area but the suspect responded by ramming his truck into him a short distance away, police added.
The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said, adding that the pick-up truck driver's identity will not be immediately revealed.
