Alleged Car-to-Car Shooting Leads to Multi-Vehicle Crash, Injures 7 in Concord: CHP

An alleged shooting led to a multi-car crash that injured seven passengers on Highway 4 in Concord Monday.

According to California Highway Patrol officer John Fransen, a BART police officer, who was traveling on the roadway near Willow Pass Road, noticed the occupants of a gray Nissan firing at another vehicle.

The officer began to pursue the Nissan but its driver sped off, exiting on Port Chicago Highway. The driver caused a multi-vehicle pile-up at the bottom of the off-ramp, Fransen said.

At least four vehicles were involved in the accident, including one that rolled over, he said.

Seven passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries and it remains unclear whether the BART officer was involved in the crash, Fransen said.

So far, no one was reported killed by the shooting.
